Our Deepest Fear
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate,
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our Light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you NOT to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightening about shrinking
So that other people won't feel unsure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
As we let our own Light shine, we unconsciously give
Other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
- Nelson Mandela
* What are your fears?
* What are your opportunities for growth?
* Want to share?
-- You may enlighten, maybe even liberate someone...
I just read this quote for the first time last friday...but it was just part of it...thanks for providing the rest of it! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe'll be heading out to Denver in a couple weeks...maybe we'll run into each other again!
sometimes i'm afraid of my own light but in a way that's a bit different from this quote. sometimes i'm afraid that i am so powerful i can make anything happen. i'm afraid of becoming my own god. of pulling my life (and others') in the direction i will them to go instead of following that voice inside. i'm afraid of too much power. of getting in my own way. for me, following and listening... those are the really hard things.
ReplyDeletei think it's striking the balance between having the confidence to be your best self and having the patience to listen to who that best self is and not let your will overshadow it.
love to you.
You and Merille didn't have any quotes on your walls in the apartment did you...haha. You love quotes more than about anyone I know! Glad you are embracing change. I need to get better at that.
