denver marathon

so...i never thought i was a runner. apparently i am sort of one. i decided on a whim...i really wanted a $150 pair of new running shoes and could not justify that large of a purchase without a great reason. my great reason as i was paying...to run another marathon. i have been training for the last 4 months and on sunday accomplished my goal of qualifying to run in the Boston Marathon.!!!!!!! i have not made a final decision to run or not...but if pressed i would say, watch out Boston, here i come!!!! in case you are wondering...i will save you the time if you so choose to look up these crazy things. in order to qualify for a woman of my age, you must run a marathon which is approved as a boston qualifier in 3:40 minutes or less. my time ;-) 3:39:11 seconds. oh yeah!! pictures to follow...

what have you accomplished thus far in your life you never imagined?

  2. Dad says wow, you are great! You amaze me! And as far as "what have I accomplished thus far in my life that I never imagined?"-I've been to Mongolia, China, South Korea, Japan, Tahiti, New Zealand, and have a daughter that has run two marathons. I have five grandchildren, two sons, and four beautiful women in my life.

Mom says "great job. I am so proud of you!" I have run three half marathons, been to China, New Zealand and traveled many time to Denver. I have done two 14ers with my middle daughter and one of them with Craig and Priscilla also. These are things that I never thought I would accomplish. Melissa you motivate me. I love you!

  3. Mel,
I am SO,SO,SO proud of you I hardly know what to say! You always amaze and inspire me! I hope you know that I have always looked up to you and admired your spirit and courage. After all you have been through this year, just look at what you have accomplished!
I hope I can raise my girls to be as strong and motivated as you are!(Because we know how motivated I can be!!)I hope you know that you truely are amazing, look at how much more you have accomplished in life besides this! You are awesome! And what have I accomplished? I guess having 5 kids at the ripe ole age of 24, traveling to 20 states in 19 days, and missions work in Honduras. And who could forget being married to a wonderful, adoring husband who also adores my kids?(what more can a girl ask for?)And at times when it doesn't seem like much, YOU are the one that reminds me how much I DO have! You are such a great sis and I love you! I miss you terribly and can't wait to see you again! Love - Paula

  4. AWESOME JOB!!!! We are so proud of you and loved being able to share the finish with you.

What have I accomplished? Sometimes it seems a lot less than I imagined I would have at this age. However, I have moved across the country to Denver, CO, climbed a 14er, and traveled to Europe. Thanks for the reminder to remember those things we never thought we'd accomplish.
    Love you!!!! Priscilla

Yeah!! Rudy--we are so very proud of you. Adam and I picked up running this April and our goal is to complete a marathon. He really really wants to qualify for Boston. I am dying at 10 minute miles--so Boston is out for me. You better keep running because when Adam makes it I will wear a tshirt with his face on the front and yours on the back and cheer you both on every step of the way...
